It's always a lovely afternoon for us, but this year we had a special treat with the first performance of John Whittaker's "Christmas Garland" which he'd written for the Crowthorne Symphony Orchestra and baritone Andrew Sparling. Nearly 40 players enjoyed a fantastic afternoon exploring Dvorak's Serenade for Strings at our annual Strings Workshop on Sunday. The audience certainly enjoyed the evening - with lots of comments of "exciting" and "wonderful". More than 100 composers from 27 different countries entered, and the two winning pieces were premiered live by the Zemtsov Viola Quartet in the Hofpleintheater, before an audience of more than 100 violists and viola music enthusiasts. This was the fifth year that we've given a Christmas Concert at St John's, and it's becoming a bit of a tradition!
